Meet Hanks Precision:
The company was founded by a father and son team who started loading their own ammunition just to make their shooting more affordable. Joe Johnson, the dad, started reloading as a young man in the 1970s. Dan Johnson, the son in this team, showed interest in Dad's hunting and fishing, and joined him in it as a little boy, much to the enjoyment of the old man. Having a son to join him made an excellent excuse to hunt and fish more than in previous years. In time the old presses came out of mothballs. Powder, primers, shot cups, brass, bullets, and shot were bought whenever possible, and like two mad scientists, they experimented with several new recipes that evolved over the years.
As an empty nester, Joe started giving more attention to his gun collection. Of course, Dan was right there with him. Always having a love for rifles, their collections grew during this time. New generations of premium bullets with superior flight characteristics and terminal performance came available, and the two mad scientists were all over them. Combining old school and new technology at the loading bench improved the accuracy of their rifles. Soon, friends and relatives got their ammunition from them and got similar improved results.
With a name like Johnson, some other name was needed, so the men decided their aging chocolate Labrador retriever should be remembered. In 2013 the federal firearms license was acquired, the LLC was registered in the state of Minnesota, and it became official. Hank's Precision: Custom Crafted Cartridges, LLC was born. Now with Dan's sons Gavin and Luke, three generations of Johnson boys work in the shop, passionately building premium hunting cartridges and shotgun shells with the precision of NASA machinists.
